Gildersome St Peter’s Church is a Christian community in the Anglican tradition which serves Gildersome, in South Leeds, a village with a population of about 5,000. The Church’s mission statement, which was drawn up in 2008 by the congregation, is very short but describes our purpose: To know God, show God and share God.

St Peter’s is described by many as welcoming and lively. In every sense it is a ‘people’s church’. There are activities and groups which meet spiritual and social needs. There are facilities which can be used by the community. There is something for all ages and all levels of experience.

The Church’s Transformational Plan – a 5 year ‘blueprint’ of where we believe God is calling us – is challenging us to seek God’s purpose for us as individuals and as His Body in this place. The ‘Plan’ is divided into 5 areas:

§ Worship

§ Prayer and Spirituality

§ Care

§ Evangelism and Mission

§ Community Outreach and Involvement

Opportunities to Worship

Our main Sunday Service is at 10.00am followed by coffee and cakes in the church hall. Most weeks it is Holy Communion with a mixture of traditional and contemporary hymns and songs led by our talented Worship Group. There are Sunday Groups for children aged 3 – 18 and babies and toddlers are welcome with their parents in church. On the 2nd Sunday it is Family Service, a relaxed service with something for all ages.

For those who prefer a quieter service there are Holy Communion services at 8.00 am Sunday, 7.15 pm Tuesday, 10.00 am Wednesday and 10.30 am Friday.

The church Worship Group meets on a Thursday at 7.45 and small cell study groups meet in different places throughout the week.

Music in Worship

St Peter’s Church is really blessed to have a number of competent

musicians and singers who have a passion for Jesus and a real desire to worship Him.

Their role is to simply point people to Him during the services.

We have keyboard players and organists; several guitarists; a couple of bass players

flautists and drummers. We can put together a team to lead a wide range of service

styles from youth services to quiet communion services and our monthly Family Service

which is always very informal.
